Kenyan ‘miracle babies’ pastor dies in road crash

The controversial televangelist Kenyan Gilbert Deya, who said he created miraculous pregnancies, died in a road accident.

The police told local media that Deya died on the spot Tuesday evening after his vehicle was involved in an accident with a university bus and another vehicle near the city of Kisumu in western Kenya.

At least 30 other people have been injured, including a person identified as his wife and a passenger in his vehicle, and 15 students on the bus.

Deya, who led a church in London, became infamy in the early 2000s, following his assertion that he could help infertile couples conceive “miracle” babies by prayer.

The investigations then linked his church to an alleged ring of children’s trafficking, which led to his arrest and his extradition of the United Kingdom about eight years ago after a legal battle of a decade.

According to accusations two years ago due to insufficient evidence.

On Wednesday, the Governor of the County of Siaya, James Orengo, said that he had learned with “deep sadness and a regret of the death of Bishop Gilbert Deya”.

He confirmed that the “horrible” road accident involved a vehicle belonging to the county.
