Maryland resident Kilmar Abrego Garcia was sent back to the United States to face criminal charges involving an alleged undocumented undocumented ring on Friday, months after being wrongly expelled to a native Salvador prison.
Abrego Garcia was charged before the Federal Court of Tennessee for an accusation linked to the transport of undocumented migrants in the United States.
A lawyer for the married father of three children called the accusations “an abuse of power” and accused the Trump administration of “playing games” with a federal judge who ordered him months ago
The accusation act alleges that Greo Garcia and others from 2016 to 2025 “conspired to bring undocumented foreigners to the United States in countries like Guatemala, Salvador, Honduras, Ecuador and elsewhere, ultimately Mexico before crossing Texas.”
The grand jury that published the indictment revealed that he had made more than 100 smuggling trips of thousands of immigrants.
The indictment was issued on May 21 but remained sealed until Friday, shortly before the Attorney General Pam Bondi announced at a press conference Fridan that Garcia had landed in the United States.
“The Grand Jury has noticed that over the past nine years, Abrego Garcia has played an important role in an extraterrestrial smuggling ring,” said Bondi.
“They found that it was his full-time job, not an entrepreneur. He was a passer of humans and children and women … MS-13 members, violent gang, members of the terrorist organization throughout our country.
Bondi said that the Abrego Garcia ring would have been involved with the death of more than 50 migrants in 2021 after the semi-trailer was canceled in Mexico “.
She also declared that he “had mistreated undocumented extraterrestrial women, according to co-conspirators, who were under his control while transporting them throughout our country” and “firearms and tank drugs throughout our country”.
The Attorney General also said: “A co-conspirator allegedly alleged that the accused had requested naked photographs and videos of a minor”.
And, “a co-conspirator also alleges that the defendant played a role in the murder of the mother of a member of a rival gang,” said Bondi. “These facts show that Greo Garcia is a danger to our community.”
Abrego Garcia’s lawyer, Simon Sandoval-Moshenberg, in a statement at NBC 4 in Washington, DC, said: “The government has disappeared Kilmar at a foreign prison in violation of a court order.”
“Now, after months late and secret, they bring him back, not to correct their error but to continue him,” said Sandoval-Moshenberg.
“It shows that they were playing games with the court.
“The government should have him judged, yes but before the same immigration judge who heard his case in 2019, which is the ordinary way to do things’, to ensure that his case is treated as it would have been if he had not been sent badly to Salvador,” as the Supreme Court has ordered. “”
The Trump administration says that Greo Garcia is a member of the MS-13 notorious gang, which the United States considers a foreign terrorist organization. He denies belonging to the gang,
Abrego Garcia was owned by American immigration and customs agents in Maryland on March 12.
He was expelled three days later in what the administration later conceded was an error.
Abrego Garcia was subject to a 2019 deduction order by a judge prohibiting his referral to El Salvador because of the concerns he would be persecuted there.
Despite his admission that he should not have been kidnapped, the Trump administration said that it could not bring Abrego Garcia to the United States, even after a judge of the Maryland American district court ordered federal officials to facilitate his return.
The Supreme Court in April confirmed this order.
