Man Utd’s 4/10 flop must be given the boot by INEOS

Man Utd’s 4/10 flop must be given the boot by INEOS

Manchester United‘s depressing season went from bad to worse on Sunday night as Ruben amorim‘s uninspiring Red Devils limped out of the FA Cup against Fulham on penalties.

Dependable United hero Bruno Fernandes got his side back into the contest at 1-1, but that was as good as it got as far as the men in red were concerned.

Indeed, there was no renewed chapter in the sombre tale of the fallen giants with Joshua Zirkzee’s missed spot-kick handing Marco Silva’s Cottagers a dramatic 4-3 penalty shoot-out triumph.

There were a whole host of poor performers on the night, but again Rasmus Hojlund offered very little up top for his dejected outfit as his individual woes continued.

Hojlund’s last set of meaningful contributions for the Red Devils came all the way back in December when the Danish attacker fired home two strikes versus Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League.

Since then, he has been deep in a barren patch of form with the 22-year-old trudging off in the 68th minute in this contest having offered nothing of note to try and breach the Fulham defence.

Indeed, the lacklustre United number nine would only tally up a shocking nine touches in total as a constant bystander to the play unfolding, whilst also only completing a meagre two accurate passes before being hauled off by his manager.

Amorim can only persist with the underperformer for so long, having watched another game pass the 6 foot 3 centre-forward by.

But, there was another figure in Amorim’s camp who arguably put in a worse display than Hojlund.

4/10 star showed he’s not good enough for Man United

Nobody in particular could walk off at the end with their heads held high, minus a couple of bright young sparks that came off the substitutes bench late on and Bruno Fernandes.

Certainly, Victor Lindelof wouldn’t have been all smiles at the end of the crushing Cup exit, having won himself an opportunity to impress off the bench and failing massively to do so.

Victor-Lindelof

In the end, Zirkzee’s missed penalty would be the difference-maker, but Lindelof would have handed Fulham a major helping of confidence when he also messed up his spot-kick prior to the Dutchman costing his side dear.

Moreover, during the extended match itself, the United number two never looked comfortable or assured, with the likes of Matthijs de Ligt partnering the Swede at the back having to be doubly alert in case Lindelof became exposed.

De Ligt wasn’t the only solid performer at the back throughout, with Andre Onana also keeping his side in the game at points with four saves, alongside Harry Maguire putting his body on the line regularly with six duels won.

Whereas, Lindelof might have been surprised to even come on considering his last long run-out was versus Tottenham Hotspur in the EFL Cup.

Victor-Lindelof-1

He did not offer a whole lot to the contest away from his moment in the spotlight during the shoot-out, with Manchester Evening News journalist Samuel Luckhurst handing him a low 4/10 match rating subsequently.

Hojlund should be given more chances to impress despite his no-show, whereas Lindelof has very quickly proven he shouldn’t be at Man United beyond the summer.
