Mayor of Chicago Brandon Johnson Expressed Monday concerning the potential deployment of federal troops in his city in the repression of immigration by former president Donald Trump, warning this decision could be unconstitutional and legally contested.
Speaking at a press conference at the Town Hall, Johnson responded to federal plans reports to intensify the application of immigration in Sanctuous cities like Chicagoqualifying the idea of threatening civil liberties and local governance.
“It’s just another example of his animus towards workers,” said Johnson. “I think it is important that the president respects the Constitution. If you ask me if this president will work with the city leaders, it is clear that he is not interested in doing so.”

Johnson’s remarks came in response to a declaration by a Trump administration manager at RollerBy saying: “Chicago is next, if they go too far”, in reference to recent demonstrations and the policies of the city’s sanctuary.
“The second they do, the president is ready to prove that no one is above the law,” added the official.
The comments follow the anti-ice and anti-top demonstrations in Chicago which echoed national demonstrationsI encourage federal officials to closely monitor the situation, especially after the Trump administration deployed the National Guard forces in Los Angeles.
“We will continue to resist,” said Johnson. “Whether in the courts, in the streets or by public policy, we will defend workers.”
Mary Richardson-Lowry, city lawyer, underlined the legal limits of such a deployment. “We believe that this is a violation of the Constitution to deploy troops or a national guard who was absent under the Constitution,” she said.
