The United Nations Refugees Agency says the number of people forcibly moved by violence and persecution Around the world, has reached more than 122 million, up approximately two million compared to last year and a quasi-dubbing in the last decade.
The head of the UNHCR, Filippo Grandi, has nevertheless underlined certain “rays of hope” in the last six months, including the return of nearly two million Syrians while their country tries to recover from more than a decade of civil war.
The conclusions come when the refugee agency published its world report on trends on Thursday, which indicated that the number of people conducted abroad or moved to their country of origin by war, violence and persecution in April increased to 122.1 million, against 120 million a year earlier.

Among these, the number of people displaced internally jumped more than nine percent to 73.5 million at the end of last year. The figures represent cumulative figures of the years of conflict, violence and persecution, and some displaced people returned home last year when others fled.
The report comes at a time when humanitarian groups face budget cuts from the United States and other traditional Western donors.
The UNHCR said that almost two-thirds of the people who crossed the national borders to flee had stayed in neighboring countries, countering “generalized perception in richer regions” that a majority of people were fleeing in order to reach places like Europe or the United States.
The agency said Sudan, which was torn apart by civil war, has become the largest crisis in the movement of the world, with more than 14 million people displaced by the conflict – exceeding Syria, at 13.5 million. More than 10 million in Afghanistan have been moved by force and some 8.8 million in Ukraine or from Ukraine, the UNHCR said.
