Officer killed at rural property

A 57 -year -old Australian policeman was shot down on a rural property in Tasmania while serving a mandate to regain possession of a house, police said.

The officer had arrived in a house in North Motton, near the city of Ulverstone on Monday morning when he was dismissed by “a public member,” Tasmania police said in a statement.

A second police officer was a fire, injuring the suspect’s hand. The suspect went and then received treatment at the hospital, police said.

Mortal shots remain rare in Australia, which presents strict firearms.

After the shooting on Monday, a crime scene was created in North Motton and the Coroner was informed, said a police spokesman, adding that “there is no continuous threat to the public”.

“The security of our officers is our number one priority, and seeing a tragically killed officer in these circumstances is really shocking,” the police commissioner Donna Adams said on Monday.

“We know that the police can be risky, but we expect each officer to finish his quarter of work and go home.”

Police do not appoint the officer out of respect for his family, because some family members have not yet been informed of his death, said Adams.

She described it as an “authentic and reliable police officer” who served the community for 25 years.

He had been accompanied by a “senior sergeant and experienced” Monday morning to “serve a mandate approved by the court to regain possession of a house,” said Adams.

She added that the officer had been shot by heading his car at the front of the house. She also praised her colleague, who managed to call for help while “in a situation of danger and danger”.

Incident surveys are underway, said Adams.

Police also said that well-being support was provided to the people involved and affected.

In a statement, the Prime Minister of Tasmania, Jeremy Rockliff, described the incident as “heartbreaking tragedy”.

To all those who have had the honor of knowing this officer, in particular his family and his colleagues … The love of a whole state is with you today. “”

The shots are relatively rare in Australia, which introduced some of the most stringent firearms in the world after 35 people were killed in a massacre by a lonely shooter in Port Arthur, in Tasmania, in 1996.
