The demonstrations at the next G7 leaders’ summit in Kananaskis, Alberta can be very different from the demonstrations that occur this week against immigration repression in the United States.
A research group from the University of Toronto that has been monitoring world leaders since 1998 said that its analysis shows that Canadian demonstrations are more peaceful and smaller – but similar to recent demonstrations in Los Angeles, they are likely to be contrary to the policies of US President Donald Trump.
“The Los Angeles demonstrations will add another (problem) that the demonstrators who are already going there, but he will do nothing more than that,” said John Kirton, director of the G7 Research Group.
“I don’t think that will bring more demonstrators too. The demonstrations of the will not be Trump to come here either.”
Prime Minister Mark Carney welcomes Trump and the world leaders of France, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom, Italy and the European Union for the three-day summit from Sunday in the Rockies southwest of Calgary.
The leaders of several non -member countries, including India, Ukraine and Mexico, should also attend.
Military planes were frequent visitors to the sky above Calgary at the head of the G7 summit, including these US Maritime Balbuzard planes that were spotted at Calgary International Airport on Thursday.

The summit comes in as demonstrations in the United States continue against Trump’s immigration raids, in particular the detention of migrants by his government.
Hundreds of American navies have joined around 4,000 soldiers from the National Guard in Los Angeles.
The demonstrations have seen clashes with the police, burned cars, rubber bullets drawn from journalists and arrests.

In Alberta, Kirton said that demonstrations during the G7 should not be the same.
“(The distinctive mission of the G7) from the very beginning was to promote the values of open democracy within its own members,” he said. “In democracies, people are supposed to protest. It’s an integral part. “
The government of Canada is unlikely to respond to all clashes like Trump, calling in the army, added Kirton.
The distant location of Kananaskis where the summit takes place will be closed to the public.
The G7 summit security forces include RCMP members, Calgary police, Alberta sheriffs, Canadian Wildlife and Armed Forces officers – all those who have been involved in in -depth training in recent weeks.

The visuals and audio of the demonstrators in three demonstration zones designated by the RCMP – two in downtown Calgary and one in Banff – must be shown to the leaders and other delegates of the TV screens, while another area of the Calgary airport will not be broadcast.
Kirton said that the distance between managers and demonstrators ensures that the summit takes place peacefully.
“Trump was subjected to two assassination attempts, and one almost killed him. So you can see why (the RCMP) must be hypervigating,” Kirton said.
The Grannies Raging Calgary group plans to be in the protest area at the Calgary town hall on Sunday afternoon.
Mary Oxendale-Spensley, 74, said that the grandmothers will be far from raging and compete with the police when they call Trump’s prices and his argument to annex Canada.
“We intend to sing,” said the retired professor. One of their songs in the programming is “USA, you have a problem”.
The song calls the American president a “orange blob” because of his tan, says that he is “out of the line” and declares “our sovereign nation will never be yours,” said Oxendale-Spensley.
To make sure that Trump hears that their message is vital, she said, even if it is on a screen.
“I am Canadian. I was Canadian at my birth. I intend to be Canadian when I died. ”
It is difficult to say how many grannies will be at the demonstration, she added. “My great complaint about grannies is always that we are grannies. People fall sick, people break their ankle, this kind of thing. ”
The demonstrations at the last G7 summit in Kananaskis in 2002 were peaceful, said Kirton, as demonstrators also received designated areas.
“I remember very well that it was very hot,” said Kirton, and there were not many demonstrators.
“There were so little and it was so peaceful that we did not even bother to estimate a number.”
The police motorcycles involved in training exercises were frequently identified in the streets of Calgary in the weeks preceding the G7 summit.

In addition to protests against Trump, some should tackle other problems, such as asking for the end of the War of Israel-Hamas and the Russian War in Ukraine, Kirton said.
Kirton said that he also provided for a presence of Canadians who want Alberta to separate from Canada, as well as those opposed to the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Tensions have been raised between Canada and India since 2023, when former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told the House of Commons that Indian government agents were linked to the murder of a Canadian activist for Sikh separatism outside a Gurdwara in Surrey, British Columbia, British Columbia,
The Sikhs groups asked Carney to cancel its G7 invitation to Modi.
Moninder Singh, spokesperson for the Sikh Federation of Canada, said that she was planning demonstrations in Banff, Calgary and Ottawa for Modi attendance.

The International League for Fruptions of Peoples, an international alliance of basic organizations, awaits around 200 people for a demonstration also at the Calgary City Hall.
Yasmeen Khan, vice-president of the group section in North America, said the demonstrators wanted to raise awareness of various problems, including native struggles, housing and climate change.
“We will have banners. We will sing, ”she said. “We will also have cultural performances of certain Aboriginal artists and young migrants.”
The gendarmes said the first stakeholders were prepared for demonstrations.
“Although the number of participants can vary, we have a strong awareness of the situation of the planned demonstrations and we are well placed to respond accordingly,” said RCMP spokesperson Fraser Logan.
