The RCMP says that there are current surveys on networks linked to a Russian national who has been accused of illegal export of goods to Russia.
Anton Trofimov, who lives in Toronto, was arrested on May 5 and accused of an export chief of a restricted property to Russia and an export chief of a property to Russia for arms manufacturing, according to documents deposited before the Ontario Court of Justice.
The accusations fall under federal regulations on special economic measures (Russia) introduced in 2014 which were modified to add more punishment at the start of the large -scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
The 43 -year -old man also faces an accusation under the Criminal Code of possession of the product of the property obtained by crime. The accusations concern an incident or incidents which would have taken place between July 17, 2022 and December 8, 2022.
CBC News reported the arrest of Trofimov last week, but the RCMP confirmed the arrest only a press conference on Friday.
Questioned Friday on other surveys related to Canada’s sanctions against Russia, the Chief Surint. The parts suggested by Chris Leather from the Trofimov network are still being studied.
“Canadian authorities continue to investigate this question at the national level here in Canada. There are certainly elements of its network that remain in place,” said Leather. It would not be developed due to current surveys.
RCMP officers said on Friday that the Trofimov survey was transnational, involving a number of ports outside of Canada. International police agencies, including the FBI, have been involved, police said.
The RCMP alleged that Trofimov gathered electronic components from around the world and dispatched them to Asia before being shipped to Russia.
In addition to his Toronto home, Trofimov has a home address in Hong Kong and is director of Asia Pacific Links Ltd. -A company based in Hong Kong which was sanctioned by the United States and the United Kingdom, according to Open Sanctions, a database which follows international rapes.
He indicates that the company is the largest supplier of microelectronic components to Russian companies since the start of the war and that the Asia components Pacific Links Ltd. are used to make Orlan-10 drones, a main weapon that Russian military uses for recognition to commit air strikes in Ukraine.
The RCMP would not specify which components, Trofimov would have been sent to Russia, but an officer at the Friday’s press conference said that components could be used for civil or military purposes. The RCMP said that it was unknown if the components were used in the Russian war effort.
