Reddit now lets you hide content, like posts and comments, from your user profile

Reddit Tuesday announcement A new feature that will offer its users more confidentiality with regard to what is shared on their user profiles.

The company claims that it deploys an update which will introduce a parameter of “content and activity” which allows users to decide what content of the stoves in which they participate will appear on their profiles. This includes both their history of publication and comment.

By default, all messages and comments will remain visible, as before. However, the new parameter allows users to hide all their publications and public comments, including those made directly on their profiles.

Alternatively, users can decide to selectively display the publications and comments of specific communities on their profile, while keeping other hidden.

The parameter is available in a new “Garate Your Profile” section, where users can control the visibility of their content. An option to activate or deactivate NSFW content and activity are also available, as is a subscriber tent to display or hide the number of followers.

The update adds a layer of confidentiality to Reddit which was not available before.

Previously, many Reddit users have created “disposable” accounts when they wanted to ask more personal questions. But as Reddit turns into more than one Technological company focused on advertising Post-ohaHe probably prefers that user data – such as engagement and interest – remain associated with a single user profile for better targeting of ads.

The addition of functionality could also encourage users to participate more on the site, because they will now know that they can somewhat obscure their activity from public view.

For example, users may want to participate or ask questions about a more sensitive subject, such as relationships of relationships or meetings, or a health problem they are faced with. Before, they may have chosen to simply read the messages of others, but not to commit directly to prevent information from displaying on their own user profiles.

Reddit indicates that the option of masking or displaying publications and comments is only available on the basis, and not in terms of publication or individual comments. This makes the parameters easier to manage, even if it means that you cannot choose and choose specific comments and publications and which do not.

However, users should know that the conservation option does not mean that they have real confidentiality. Their username will always appear next to their messages and comments in the communities themselves. In addition, certain moderators will always have access to the public publication of a user and the history of comments for 28 days, whatever the visibility parameters of the user’s content, explains Reddit.

This access is useful to moderators who may need to examine the history of a user when they publish or comment, as well as when sending “Modmail”, such as joint requests or requests to join a limited community.

Profile owners will also be able to temporarily see the full publication of a user and the history of the comments if another user comments directly on his article in profile, notes the company.
