The authorities began to put the remains of the victims of one of the worst disasters in India of India, a few days after the Air India flight crashed and killed at least 270 people, officials announced on Sunday.
The Boeing 787 to London struck a medical college inn in a residential area in the city in the northwest of Ahmedabad a few minutes after takeoff on Thursday, killing 241 people on board and at least 29 on the field. A passenger has survived.
Hundreds of parents of the victims of the accident provided DNA samples to the hospital. Most of the bodies have been charred or mutilated, which makes them unrecognizable.
Rajneesh Patel, an official at Ahmedabad civil hospital, said that the authorities have so far identified 32 victims by DNA cartography and that their families have been informed. The remains of 14 victims were given to relatives, he said.
The families of the victims waited outside the morgue of the hospital while the authorities worked to fill formalities and transfer the bodies to the coffins in the ambulances. Most of them expressed their frustration at a slow rate of the identification process. The authorities say that it normally takes up to 72 hours to finish the matching of DNA and that they accelerate the process.
Among the passengers, there were 169 Indians, 53 British, seven Portuguese and a Canadian.
Qasim Rashid Ahmed, a British national of Indian origin whose charity has provided food and accommodation to relatives of the victims, said most of the British victims had parents in the state of Gujarat and had given their DNA samples.
In addition to the official investigation, the Indian government has set up a high -level committee to examine the causes leading to the accident. The Committee will focus on the formulation of procedures to prevent and manage aircraft emergencies in the future, the India civil aviation ministry said on Saturday in a statement.
Authorities also started inspecting the entire Fleet India from Boeing 787 Dreamliners, the Minister of Civil Aviation, Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu said on Saturday in his first press briefing since Thursday’s accident.
Eight of the 34 Dreamliners in India have already undergone an inspection, said Kinjarapu, adding that the remaining plane will be examined with “an immediate emergency”.
Friday, investigators recovered the plane’s digital flight data recorder, or the black box, on a roof near the accident site.
An Air India Passenger Airplane to London crashed 5 minutes after takeoff in the northwest city of Ahmedabad India Thursday, according to the airline. They say that 53 British citizens, seven from Portugal and a Canadian citizen were among the 242 passengers and crew on board the flight. Warning: This video contains graphic images.
The device is expected to reveal information on the engine and the control parameters, while the voice recorder will provide cockpit conversations, said Paul FromMme, mechanical engineer of the mechanical engineers based in the United Kingdom.
The plane that crashed was 12 years old. There are currently about 1,200 of the 787 Dreamliner planes worldwide and it was the first fatal accident in 16 years of operation, according to experts.
Boeing aircraft were prey to safety problems on other types of aircraft.
