Ronaldo declines offers to play at FIFA Club World Cup | Football News

Al-Nassr and the Portugal striker Cristiano Ronaldo said that he did not intend to play the Club World Cup from June 14 in the United States.

Cristiano Ronaldo says he is almost sure that he will not play the club World Cup, bringing the hopes of the president of FIFA, Gianni Infantino, to have one of the biggest attractions in football during the tournament.

The Portugal star confirmed on Saturday that he had received “a lot of offers” of participating clubs to play for them at the tournament from June 14, but that he had decided to accept it.

“Some things make sense to speak, others do not do it and, as a person says, you cannot participate in everything,” said Ronaldo.

“You have to think of the short, medium and long term. It is a decision practically made on my part not to go to the club World Cup, but I had a lot of invitations to leave.”

Ronaldo spoke in Munich one day before the UEFA Nations League final of Portugal against Spain.

The 40-year-old scored his 137th international goal during a 2-1 semi-final victory against Germany on Wednesday to book Portugal Place in the final.

“This is not relevant at the moment,” said Ronaldo when he asked questions about the FIFA club World Cup. “It makes no sense to talk about something other than the national team.”
