Game companies and Cas-Naftra The actors’ union has concluded an agreement which should end a long strike.
Once the terms of a strike suspension agreement were finalized with employers, the strike will be completed. The strike focused mainly on the rights of actors in the video game voice with regard to the use of their voices or their similarities with regard to the use of AI play companies to reproduce the actors of their games.
The actors of the Guild-Americaan Federation of Television of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) screen and signatory video game companies have entered into an agreement. The strike has been taking place since July 26, 2024.
Companies include Activision Productions Inc., Blinklight LLC, Disney Character Voices Inc., Electronic Arts Productions Inc., Epic Games Inc., Formosa Interactive LLC, Insomniac Games Inc., Take 2 Productions Inc. and WB Games Inc.
They reached a provisional agreement on the conditions of the interactive media contract, subject to review and approval by the National Council and ratification by members in the coming weeks. Specific details of the agreement will be published with ratification materials.
We expect the terms of a strike suspension agreement to be finalized with employers soon. Until such an agreement is concluded, however, the members of Sag-Aftra will go on strike against these employers.
Duncan Crabtree-Ireland, National Executive Director of Sag-Aftra, said in a statement: “Everyone at Sag-Aftra is extremely grateful for the sacrifices made by video game artists and the dedication of the negotiation committee for interactive media agreements throughout these many months of the video game strike.”
He added: “Patience and perseverance have resulted in an agreement that sets up the necessary railing that defend the livelihoods of artists in the AI era, alongside other important gains. Thank you, the president of the interactive media negotiating Sarah Elmaleh and the director of contracts Ray Rodriguez for your hard work and the defense of this contract. ”
The president of Sag-Aftra, Fran Drescher, said in a statement: “Our video game artists were strong against the largest employers in one of the most lucrative industries in the world. Their courage and persistence, combined with the tireless work of our negotiation committee. The contract is a work in progress and progress is the name of the game. ”
SAG-AFTRA members have been on strike against video game employers for 11 months. Before that, SAG-AFTRA members approved a video game strike authorization in September 2023 with a 98.32% voting yes.
SAG-AFTRA represents around 160,000 actors, advertisers, broadcasting journalists, dancers, DJs, news writers, editors, program guests, puppeteers, recording artists, singers, stuntmen, voice-over and other entertainment and media professionals. The members of Sag-Aftra are the faces and voices that entertain and inform America and the world.
