Senegal's gold mining boom leads to surge in sex trafficking

For several years, the Kédougou region in the Far East in Senegal has experienced a gold rush. This precious metal race has led to a proliferation of craft mining sites, attracting thousands of gold minors from all of West Africa. But in parallel with the economic boom, the region has increased by the trafficking in human beings. In particular, hundreds of Nigerian women are forced to prostitution on mining sites. This exploitation is motivated by large transnational networks whose scope extends over almost all gold extraction sites in West Africa and beyond. Our Senegal correspondents report.
