Snap has acquired SaturnA calendar application that helps students manage their school hours and share them with others, confirmed the company in Techcrunch on Friday. The financial conditions of the agreement have not been disclosed. Saturn will continue to operate as an autonomous application.
The news has been reported for the first time by Engadget.
Snap says that almost the entire Saturn team joins Snap as part of the acquisition, with just under 30 full -time employees on board.
Although Snap has not shared much on his plans for the acquisition, a company spokesperson told Techcrunch in an email that Snap would bring the expertise of the Saturn calendar in Snapchat in an innovative way.
Founded in 2018, Saturn reinvents the experience of the calendar by bringing a social element. The idea behind the startup is to allow high school and college students to connect with their classmates and see in which classes their friends are without having to share a lot of photos of different times.
Users can share their schedules with their friends to see what they do in real time and what they have to come to make plans. In addition to courses, users can share their hours of practices, rehearsals, meetings, games, etc.
Snap says that Saturn is used by a large number of schools and that 80% of US secondary schools have support for Saturn. Snap believes that Saturn has built its success by transforming planning into a more engaging and more dynamic experience. The two companies will work together to promote more real connections, says Snap.
Forbes reported in 2021 The fact that Saturn collected $ 44 million in a financing tour led by General Catalyst, Insight Partners and Coatue, with the participation of Bezos Expeditions, Marc Benioff, Dara Khosrowshahi and Ashton Kutcher and Guy Oseary’s Sound Ventures, among others.
