Snap has acquired A calendar application for secondary and college students. The company did not disclose the terms of the agreement, but said that nearly 30 of Saturn full -time employees would join Snap as part of the acquisition.
It is not clear what SNAP has planned for Saturn, but the company confirmed to Engadget that the Calendar application will continue to operate as an autonomous service. He also suggested that acquisition could help install calendar features in Snapchat.
A calendar application may seem a strange choice for Snap, but there is clearly a lot of overlap between users of the two services. According to Snap, around 80% of American high school students attend schools that support Saturn (its App Store page says that it is available in more than 17,000 secondary schools). Snap is used by more than half of us adolescents, by .
Saturn is also much more social than the application of typical calendar. It has a Snapchat type design that allows adolescents to easily share and compare their schedules with friends. It also supports specific features for high school students, such as block schedules, rotation calendars and extracurricular activities. Saturn also has features for students, although it does not seem to be so widely used among this slightly older demography.
The startup, founded by Dylan Diamond (CEO of Saturn) and Max Baron (COO), previously collected funds from a certain number of high -level investors, including the CEO of Salesforce, Marc Benioff, the expeditions of Bezos Expeditions of Uber Dara Khosrowshahi and Jeff Bezos. Forbes In 2021, the startup had raised $ 44 million.
Jim Lanzone, the CEO of the Mother Société d’Entadget, Yahoo, joined the Snap board of directors on September 12, 2024. Person outside the editorial team of Engadget has his say in our coverage of the company.
