I bet you didn’t have this on your bingo list. Developed by Tactic Studios in partnership with Square Enix, the game was unveiled during the Livestream Fest Game Fest, and it is far from being the famous RPG Maker bread and butter. Killer Inn, as it is called, is a mystery of multiplayer murder which takes an American type gameplay and the click by treating knives, rifles and many other weapons to kill or be killed while they are looking for the original killer.
Killer Inn is perhaps one of these games which is best understood after having played a few games, but even from the trailer for revelation, many things happen. In each match, 24 players enter a sprawling castle that has become hetering to determine who are the real killers because they are selected by one. There is a deduction and a chaos.
The game phases of Killer Inn are provided by detective style games, from us to Ultimate Werewolf to the Mafia. A match begins with most players as cooperative participants (“Lambs”, in the language of Killer Inn) mixed with some secret killers (“Wolves”). The players perform tasks to win exchangable tokens against objects and weapons, while the killers are quietly making their business – until someone discovers a body. On the corpse are clues left by the killer, so that lambs can try to deduce the real culprit (or culprits).
Then, it is a question of collecting clues and identifying wolves – but unlike us, there is no group discussion to present evidence or vote them. Killer Inn jumps the scene from the living room and dives directly into the action: if you are sure that someone is the killer, take them out. Use these pistols and the blades purchased in token to lower the villain. Unless you accidentally kill one of your innocent teammates – in which case you are transformed into a stone for the rest of the match. Disappointment.
The lambs have another condition of victory: to assemble four keys to escape on the ship which brought them to the island of the murder. There are also other mechanisms, such as finding relative security in the rooms with hotel staff, who will identify all wolves who kill lambs in their line of view.
Players can choose between 25 prefabricated characters who each have their own unique appearances and capacities, the latter improves as the match takes place, often reflecting the dark sides of the participants. For example, Winston is a surgeon who kills more effectively with knives and, when leveled, inflicts additional damage while being covered with blood. Otaku, on the other hand, wins 25 hp of the search for clues and ends up building resistance to the effects of status. The levels do not reproduce between the matches – everyone starts again at the first level.
Killer Inn does not have a release date, but the game will launch a closed beta test on Steam in the near future.
