Dennis Iliadis’s 2009 revenge film, “Last House on the left”, is from Mari (Sara Paxton), who is a young woman who spends time with her friend Paigen (Martha Macisaac) brutally, garrett dillahunt (Garrett Dillahunt). The prisoners try to drive with their victims, but the car has fracat when Mari and Paige start fighting back, accidentally causing them to the tree. In revenge, prisoners stabbed, sexually attacking and then shooting prisoners.
In search of shelter, the prisoners arrive at the local lake house … without knowing that it belongs to Mari’s parents (Tony Goldwy and Monica Potter). Of course, it is only a matter of time before the latter duo finds out and finding out what the prisoners did for Mari (which, as it shows, is still alive). Do parents have temperity and keeping their accident or murdering their daughter’s attackers?
The “Last House on the left” was the latest in Wes Craven’s 1972 same title film, updated to modern aesthetics. Iliadis’ film is slippery and painting, while Craven’s small budget excursion is harsh and harsh and caused a lot of controversy back during the day. Both films were also extraordinary from Ingmar Bergman’s 1960, “The Virgin Spring”, where parenting characters were light, pacifist Christians and their daughter was murdered directly. Bergman’s film transforms blood revenge into a moral dilenion that is not an assumed horror film requirement. Craven’s film has an element of moral gross and nihilism compared to, which points out that terrible people hurt others for no reason. However, Iliadis’s film is more of a potboile and ends with someone getting their heads blown up in a microwave oven.
Therefore, it was surprising when horror writer Stephen King listed as one of the best films of 2009 as the “Last House on the left” version he wrote Entertainment. Nor did he stop there by going so far as to compare it favorably Jonathan Demme’s own controversial horror classic “Lamb’s silence”.
As mentioned, EW asked the king to write a list of the best films of 2009, and his choices were … unusual. Some of his films gained widespread critical popularity and even attracted the attention of the prizes; He was in love with “District 9” and “The Reader” and even wrote that Kathryn Bigelow’s possible best picture Oscar-winning “The Hurt Locker” was the best movie of the year. But it was clear that King also liked the mysterious abuse films and large genre movies because he also sang thanks Stupid klunkers such as “law comply with citizens” “2012” and “taking Pelham 123.” The king may be a master of horror, but he does not always have the most sophisticated taste.
In other words, he defended the “last house on the left,” claiming that it significantly improved in Wes Craven’s original film. He appreciated that there was no moral dilemma in the repetition, keeping its philosophy that blood revenge was natural and expected. He also thanked Sharone Meir’s film and Paul’s acting:
“Easily the most brilliant repetition of the decade, not just because the original 1972 was so crapfest. This beautifully photographed – but difficult to watch – the film is the standard for all horror/temporary movies should be estimated: the actor is better (Paul is especially fine), the story is sensible, and most importantly,” Last House’s Last and Eight Square and Six Seven Sequences. We want them to be dead. The silence of the lamb. ‘
King seems to have lost the point of Craven’s movie, which is that blood revenge is not easy and expected nor moral necessity (which was also Bergman’s “virgin spring thesis” thesis. But he certainly loved the gloomy horrors of the movie and the catars to watch the evil boys. However, he was one of the few critics Rotten tomatoes otherwise.
