Tesla has a nightmarish year, and a large part of the damage can be drawn directly to its CEO, Elon Musk.
After spending nearly $ 290 million to help Donald Trump returns to the White House, Musk played a tailor -made role in the new government’s new (DOGE) ministry. Its thrust to reduce federal agencies and cut social programs, combined with its adoption of controversial theories, has triggered global demonstrations outside the Tesla exhibition halls. The liberal clientele of the company, once its greatest asset, felt alienated, many owners publicly regretted their purchases.
The backlash was brutal. In the first quarter, Tesla World Sales fell by 13%, and its net profit dropped from 71% to 409 million dollars compared to the previous year. The company’s shares have been down more than 20% since January. The first data suggesting that the slide does not stop, the reputation damage seems deep and lasting, even after the spectacular Musk fell with the president and left the administration.
But Tesla can have an escape plan. According to a new Bloomberg report, the automaker is turning to India.
The company is preparing to open its first exhibition hall in Mumbai by mid-July, with another planned for New Delhi shortly after. A first expedition of Chinese manufacturing vehicles, mainly the best -selling model SUV, has already been sent to the country. This decision is not only a question of expansion; It is a strategic pivot towards the third automotive market in the world, a market that could potentially compensate for the demand for cores in Europe and raid competition from the Chinese rival byd.
For years, Tesla’s attempts to enter India have failed, hung by disagreements on local manufacturing requirements and prices. The breakthrough seems to have come in February, after Musk met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his state visit to Washington. The two leaders spoke again by phone in April.
“Talked to @elonmusk and spoke of various problems,” published Modi on X. “We discussed the immense collaboration potential in the fields of technology and innovation.”
Speak @elon musk And talked about various problems, including the subjects we covered during our meeting in Washington DC earlier this year. We have discussed the immense collaboration potential in the fields of technology and innovation. India remains determined to advance our …

Musk responded with enthusiasm saying, “I can’t wait to visit India later this year!”
It was an honor to speak with PM Modi.

For a company that desperately needs to change the story, this pivot in a massive and unexploited market could be the life buoy it needs. The question is whether a new chapter in India can be sufficient to resolve the damage caused at home.
