At a point in looking BallerinaThe last film in THE John Wick UniverseI did something that I rarely do while watching a film. Something against which I fought vehemently in the past. And yet in this case, it seemed completely necessary because The film posed a dichotomy People like I haven’t seen for a very long time. That’s how it happened, while looking BallerinaI did the unthinkable. I stopped looking with a critical eye, and I am very happy to have done it.
I fully admit that it is not an ideal situation, and normally I would be very against that. On several occasions, after having given a negative criticism to something, someone will say to me: “Oh, simply turn off your brain and enjoy it.” To this, my answer is always: “Well, if it was really good, I shouldn’t have to do it.” BallerinaHowever, is sort of good and also incredibly good at the same time. It is a film of revenge mainly without brain, cold and cookie which has such an unfathomable but pleasant action that the two are completely in disagreement. How can a film do this lame have such an entertaining action? Why are these care paid to these action sequences when history and emotion are so surface? It’s very strange, a little confusing, and why, without even knowing that it happened, I did what I always say that you should not do. I put my brain.
As a professional critic, it is not the easiest thing to do. By habit, you look almost everything with that eye. What is good about this? What is bad about it? What works? What is not? Why I like that? Why is it? But Ballerina One has the impression that it was built from two completely different points of view. On the one hand, it is quite clear that, despite certain efforts from the start, the film is not particularly concerned with being narratively rewarding or complex. However, he is very interested in presenting actions and waterfalls unlike everything you have ever seen before, and for this purpose, he succeeded in success.
Takes place mainly between the events of the second and third John Wick movies, Ballerina Stars Ana de Armas like Eve. Eve is an orphan who finds himself training on the path of Roma Ruska, just like the kick of the favorite dogs of everyone, John Wick. The film does an admirable job to explain how Eve finds himself in this situation, with an original story and more, but ultimately all this takes a rear seat. Eve wants to kill people who killed his father. Even the fact that she trained like a ballerina, the literal title of the film, never really comes back. It is revenge, simple and simple.
And so Eve goes from one place to another in search of information that will lead her to a mysterious organization that killed her father. All this is not at all interesting. From the first second in the film, we can guess almost precisely what will happen at each stage because we have seen it a million times before. However, each of these places allows director Len Wiseman and his team to present different environments, styles and weapons that can be breathtaking.
There is a scene with a car in an alley that will drop your jaw. An underground battle with grenades that is completely incredible but also hilarious. And then there is the flame thrower that is so excellent, you can’t help but appreciate it simply because you are in admiration for what you look at. These scenes are so well done that, for a few minutes, you forget that you don’t care about anything else. You just want more of this dynamic and innovative action. In addition, Armas is just a star. She is extremely charismatic and credible as a character that we hope we can see more.
Along the way, Eve comes up against new and old characters in the Wick The franchise, played by Anjelica Huston, launches Reddick, Ian McShane, Gabriel Byrne and Norman Reedus, to name just a few. It is an impressive cast. Then, finally, there is Wick himself, taken up by Keanu Reeves. It’s great to see him again, but his inclusion really works against the rest of the film. Having such a strong force introduced into the film means that Wick and Eve feel less capable than anything we have seen. We understand the impetus to put it, even for marketing, but the film would have been better without it.
The film would have been better with a lot, however. A more interesting story, better characters, deeper emotions, but it is not Ballerina. Ballerina is a brainless slog filled with action full of action which is sure to obtain the public who goes in search of this and only that. Just know that if you are looking for something else, there is not much there.
At the end of BallerinaThings had long exceeded all chance of being particularly interesting or emotional. I knew that I was not going to get this innovative tradition, emotionally, deep or narrative some of the previous ones Wick Films provided. And so, instead of getting angry, I changed speed and in this very rare, very specific case, it was the right call. Because if what I watched was very forgettable in a traditional narrative sense, he is decidedly unforgettable in terms of pure and not filtered action and entertainment. Ballerina is a situation of pic-see portion.
