The Magic of Mindful Self-Awareness – BionicOldGuy


This is an excellent book that I recently read by Matt Tenney. The title and message of the book recall the classic of Thich Nhat Hanh The mindfulness miracle. Magic, or miracle, occurs when you spend more of your time paying attention to 100% to what you do. This makes you spend less time worrying about the future or reliving painful moments of the past, and more time in the present. This is something that I have been working on for some time, but it is certainly difficult to do regularly.

This book gave me motivation to try stronger. There is an incredible story at the beginning where Matt discovered this. He had made a bad mistake of judgment which led him to a very painful place (he tried to commit fraud and found himself in prison). After a few years there, he noticed that instead of ruminating how bad his situation, if he was paying attention by brushing his teeth, he felt much better. The same thing has happened by walking or doing other routine activities. He decided to try to do it all the time, and mainly resumed being in prison almost in a long retreat. He has spent his life since serving others and trying to transmit this message.

So, those of us whose daily life is not as bad as being in prison makes the same transformation? It’s worth trying!
