Andy Weir’s science fiction books are practically designed to be transformed into films, in particular in the hands of great writers and directors. This is what happened with The Martianwhich was a delightfully cheeky self -published novel which was transformed into an exciting cinematographic adaptation – thanks to the script of Drew Goddard and the daring direction of Ridley Scott. And I have the feeling that the same will be true for the last adaptation of the spillway, Hail Mary projectto judge by the first trailer published today.
He has everything: Ryan Gosling being a funny but heroic dialogue, thanks to another script of Goddard and the directors Philip Lord and Chris Miller (Lego film, 21 Jump Street) to prove their genius again with another apparently impossible adaptation. What more could you ask for in a space epic?
On the surface, Hail Mary project affirms a resemblance to the subamble of Danny Boyle Sun: The stars are dying and humanity rushes for a way to save itself. But in this case, instead of a team of astronauts, the school teacher at Ryan Gosling, Ryland Grace, is our only Savior. Bad news for us: he gets up for years in a coma and also suffers from amnesia. The trailer clearly shows that it will be an intergalactic adventure with a lot of surprises (and at least one element of the intrigue that was not The Martian).
