Animation of Sony Pictures and Netflix have a blow on your hands with Kpop demon hunters,, The fantastic action film that gave us a trio of new heroines who kills evil while singing really contagious music.
The pop tracks remain with you long after the end of the film, and this testifies to the incredible collaboration between the Filmmakers, Maggie Kang and Chris Appehansand songwriter Ejae. The musician known for her work with K-Pop artists twice and red velvet, among others, had been exploited to work alongside composer Daniel Rojas during the pre-production on the film and over the years, the demos have contributed to the songs that would be part of the story. Working on tubes at the top of the graphic in the group’s universe for the girls of the film Huntrix and their rival Demon Boy Band, The Saja Boys, was a process of several years and the first foray of Ejae in the writing of songs for the films.
In a conversation with ForbesEjae discussed her career to make music for a soundtrack that is not worthy of skips and being called to provide the singing voice for the singer of Huntrix.
“It was a natural process because I sang all the parts of Rumi,” Ejae told Forbes about providing the voice of the main protagonist to complete the performance of Arden Cho. “I sang the parts of Mira and Zoey, including the Raps. I was able to use my voice, because I wrote some of the songs. It was naturally connected to me. I explain myself anymore if it is a melody or a word that I wrote. I think it helped me, even with the directors, on the way they wanted Rumi’s voice.”
She added: “I was honestly super excited, because I love this character. I resonate so much with the character. “
For Ejae, the power of music comes from its own life experiences. “It is a beautiful thing that we have two different sides that we are fired back and forth,” she explained how closely she was linked to Rumi, which is half-human and half-sequeet. “It’s fun. Sometimes I could be more Korean. The fact that I have this choice – there is beauty to that. I see it as a proud thing for me that I am both. Everything is both, right?
This feeling of having a part of being altered is very relatable now more than ever for anyone from a marginalized environment and such a stimulating message. He is touched very close to my house because I found myself listening to “Golden” over and over again this weekend.

The application of its real truth speaks of the timelessness of words. “It really helped when I wrote [the songs] Because I know Korean culture, “said Ejae.” I know the idioms in Korean. I look at the K-Dramas and I trained like an idol myself. My Korean is good. English is my first language. So when I wrote the lyrics, I wanted [both languages to flow] To have a meaning.
So it is really obvious that it would be chosen to fill the Rumi shoes for the final product. “I think the song acts in a way,” she said about the extension of her writing to the way Rumi would create Huntrix’s music. “Writing the songs helped because when I wrote it, I was perfected on this emotion. If naturally, when I sing it, it frees my stress and my inner trauma. The melody and everything were so beautiful. “That’s what it looks like” was great. [The filmmakers] gave me the freedom to make a lot of vocal arrangements and harmonies like a final. »»
Ejae continued: “It was perfect for me because when I was 25, I didn’t want to be an artist anymore. I was too afraid. I don’t think I have a thick enough skin for that. ”
She said about the complete inclination: “I have so much respect for all these artists. But, I literally said: “If I ever become an artist, I want to be like an animated character, singing behind the scenes. Just use my voice. [Then this happened and] I said to myself: “Oh cool”. »»
