Threads is finally getting its own DM inbox

Almost two years after the launch of Threads, Meta finally yields to users on one of the most requested features for the service: direct messaging. The company is starting to test a dedicated reception box for threads, starting with Hong Kong, Argentina and Thailand, Mark Zuckerberg revealed a post On the wires.

Threads have had it messaging capacities Since last year, but the functionality only allows users to send threads to friends to friends via their Instagram DMS. It is more than a little clumsy because it requires switching back and forth between the applications. It has also been the source of a certain confusion – at least among my friends – because it allows you to send threads of threads to contacts on Instagram even when they do not have a corresponding thread account. For me, it means that I sometimes send a message to a friend on Instagram only so that they tell me that they cannot see it correctly because they do not use the application.

Needless to say, all of this was far from ideal. And, not surprisingly, the DMS was a highly requested feature of threads users. But the leaders of Meta – and the chief of Instagram Adam Mosseri in particular – were inexplicably skeptical of the functionality. Mosseri said last year that he wanted to “operate the Instagram reception box” for threads rather than building a Separate messaging function for application.

It finally changes, however. Meta begins her first tests from a specific reception box this week. The functionality will only take care of cats 1: 1 – At least for the moment – it will therefore always be much more limited than what is available on Instagram or even X. It will only be available in a few countries to start, although Meta says that it plans to extend to more “soon” regions.
