It is hard to believe that season two of Playdate is already almost over, but here we are in the week five with a drop of new more games to follow after that. In the last batch, we obtained Metroidvania climbing, ShuttleAnd Lucky escape of luckA short adventure of points and clicks that leans in the absurd. In accordance with the rest of the matches of this season, which have always been really solid, they are both very fun.
Shuttle is one of the stars of this season for me. It is at the Sweet Spot of bizarre, a little difficult and extremely engaging, and I could not drop it once I started playing. And the soundtrack reigns absolutely.
It is a metroidvania on an ambitious root vegetable that reaches the stars. Literally. The turnip makes a wish, pushes the arms and leaves to climb towards the sky. The later adventure takes place on an unexpected and breathtaking map and requires a lot of precise and calculated movements when you sail on gaps, by moving obstacles and environmental risks, discover hidden parts and collect keys to access the locked areas. In the end, the objective is to obtain the crystal vegetables which are dispersed around the map so that the dreams of the small turnip can come true, but there are also stars to collect for the compreheists among us.
Move in this game is amusing. For a normal ascent, you use the crank to move the arms of the turnip individually, pressing B to hold on grazing surfaces and change your hands. But as you progress, you take more capacities so that the turnip can also move in another way, such as the closure of its arms to roll, swim, jump, etc. These maneuvers generally involve launching the turnip in one way or another – out of the water or in the slingy style between the walls, for example – and it’s great.
I love the way this game uses the crank and it’s really just an explosion to play.
There are a few things you need to know about chance, “the luckiest dog in the world”: 1) He is on AndFortunately he is lucky and 2) he is not a bad guy, he just steals cars and sometimes steals banks! It is also a kind of hand for the dog mafia. In Lucky escape of luck – A super short puzzle adventure game, pointed and click by clicking that is played on six chapters – You have to help chance bond after having linked when he tries in vain to meet him with the boss, snowball, while avoiding the police.
The game is described as “inspired by caricatures of the 80s and absurd comedy films”, and it definitively captures these vibrations. Each scenario is found is completely ridiculous. Discover how to get the chance out of the damage in which he found himself, as being stuck in the sewers after falling into an open man hole or trying not to drown while being attached to a chair underwater, requires a little thought and creativity. But none of the puzzles is prohibitive, which maintains light and silly things.
At the very beginning, you are informed that you will have to use the crank, the microphone and even the accelerometer at certain times, which was a practical knowledge in times when I felt briefly stuck after clicking on each clickable element and always from nowhere. If in doubt, just start trying strange things and something is likely to work (White-outfrom a few weeksprepared me well for that).
As I said earlier, it is quite short, but it’s just the right length to pick up your lunch break. I could totally see that it is a series and I would gladly come back to the mishap of luck if new episodes of his saga were to be made.
