Tourist reportedly suspected of murdering her family in Iceland is arrested


A French tourist in sixties was arrested in Iceland suspected of having murdered her daughter and her husband while the three were on vacation in the country, Icelandic media reported.

The husband and the daughter were found dead in a high -end hotel in the Icelandic capital Reykjavik on Saturday morning, while the woman was found alive with knife injuries, Icelandic broadcaster Ruv reported Late Saturday.

The two deceased also underwent “injuries, including knife injury, but there will be an additional investigation which will reveal what type of injuries are involved,” Reykjavik police officer Palmi Palmason told Ruv.

RUV reported that the bodies had been found on the fourth floor of the Edition hotel and that the group was to leave on Saturday.

Icelandic police were not available to comment on the investigation on Sunday and has not yet confirmed that the suspect was linked to the victims.

The Icelandic media have provided no details on the identities of tourists.

The police only have confirmed in a press release That the district court of Reykjavik referred the woman on Saturday in detention until June 20, “as part of the investigation (a police) on the death of two French tourists in a hotel in the city center”.

“The detained woman was traveling with those who died when the case appeared,” the statement said.

In a precedent statementThe police said that two foreign tourists had been found at the hotel at around 8:00 a.m. and a third person, also touristy, was also on the scene and was injured.

“Many details are not clear because the investigation is at its beginnings,” said police.

Murders and fatal violence are rare in Iceland, the country being regularly classified at the top of the World Peace Index thanks to its low crime rates, although gang crime has increased in recent years.

In 2017, normally peaceful Iceland was shocked when a 20 -year -old was found murdered on the beach.
