Trump cuts G7 trip short due to “what’s going on in the Middle East”

President Trump will interrupt his trip to Canada for a meeting with world leaders and will return to Washington on Monday evening, said press secretary Karoline Leavitt, citing “what is happening in the Middle East”.

Trump arrived in Canada on Sunday for the G7 annual summit and met the leaders of Canada and the United Kingdom earlier on Monday. But Leavitt told X on Monday evening that the president would leave early, seeming to refer to the Israeli-Iranian conflict.

“Many have been accomplished, but because of what is happening in the Middle East, President Trump will leave tonight after dinner with the heads of state,” wrote Leavitt.

Leavitt said in a statement that the president returns to the capital to “take care of many important questions”.

The situation in the Middle East has already been largely part of the summit. During Mr. Trump’s meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, the president said he had “spoken to everyone” concerning Israel and Iran.

“I spoke to everyone. Israel is doing very well, as you have probably noticed,” said the president, adding: “I think that an agreement will be signed or something will happen, but I think that an agreement will be signed. I think Iran is stupid not to sign one.”

After Wall Street Journal Reported Iran had sent messages to the intermediaries on Monday indicating that they wanted to defuse the conflict, Trump told journalists when he met the Canadian Prime Minister that he was aware of messages.

Questioned by journalists what he had heard of Iran, he replied: “They would like to speak. But they should have done it before. I had 60 days and they had 60 days. And on the 61st day, I said, we do not agree. They must conclude an agreement.” He continued saying: “It is painful for both parties, but I would say that Iran does not win this war. And they should speak, and they should speak immediately before it is too late.”

The president’s sudden return to Washington comes when Israel and Iran exchange air strikes and missile attacks in the most intense fights of the two enemies for decades.

Israel has carried out several series of air strikes since the end of last week, saying that it aims at Iran’s nuclear program, researchers and senior military officials. Iran retaliated with missile and drone strikes in Israel.

Monday, Israel struck Iranian state television in the capital of Tehran and has urged hundreds of thousands of residents from the center of Tehran to evacuate. Mr. Trump wrote on Social truth: “Everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran!”

The president and other US officials have publicly said And in private That the United States is not involved in Israel’s strikes on Iran, although Israel spoke in the United States of the operation in advance, and the United States has helped Israel to intercept Iranian missiles. CBS News previously reported that Mr. Trump Plan opposite To kill the supreme leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The administration warned Iran against the strike of American military bases in the region.

Meanwhile, Trump urged Iran to sign an agreement to limit the scope of his nuclear program, organizing several series of talks that are now pending. Iran has long denied plans to build a nuclear weapon, although international surveillance dogs say they have increased its highly enriched uranium stock in recent years. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has long been skeptical about concluding an agreement with Iran.
