US President Donald Trump has ordered the detention and expulsion of migrants across the country as protests against his policies are continuing.
In an article on Truth Social, Trump called federal agencies to “do everything in their power” to offer “the biggest mass deportation program in history”, appointing Los Angeles, Chicago and New York as a specific targets.
These cities are among the many large -scale demonstrations have broken out against raids on undocumented migrants since June 6.
Trump faced legal challenges and criticisms for his response to demonstrations – in particular his deployment of the military to repress demonstrations.
Trump said he had ordered “the whole administration of putting all the possible resources behind this effort”.
He also promised to prevent “anyone who undermines the national tranquility of the United States” from entering the country.
Addressing various federal offices, including the Drug Encompement Administration (DEA) and immigration and customs application (ICE), he wrote “You have my unshakable support. Now, go, do the work!”
The message came a day after A new wave of demonstrations against Trump’s policies across the country.
On June 14, the “No Kings” movement was demonstrated in the cities extending from Los Angeles to New York. These demonstrations also coincided with a military parade in Washington DC to mark 250 years of the US military, which took place on the president’s 79th anniversary.
A person died during a shooting during a no Kings walk in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Trump also ordered the immigration authorities to concentrate their efforts on sanctuary cities – those who limit their aid to the federal immigration authorities – who, during demonstrations, became a source of tension between federal legislators and state legislators.
Those responsible for these places have defended their legal rights to protect undocumented migrants.
The order to extend deportations indicates follow -up on the promise of Trump’s campaign to provide the “biggest deportation program for criminals in the history of America”.
Opinion surveys suggested that this policy had generalized support in the preparation of the US elections of 2024. Since the expulsion program has increased, however, the demonstrations have only increased.
This new order one day came after the Trump administration ordered immigration officials to take a large part of the raids in farms, hotels, restaurants and meat factories, according to the Reuters news agency.
