Tokyo says he has transmitted an “appropriate message” to Beijing on ship movements.
Two Chinese aircraft carriers were seen operating in the Pacific at the same time, said the Japanese Ministry of Defense.
The Chinese Shandong and four other ships sailed in the exclusive economic zone of Japan (EEZ) on Tuesday, the Defense Ministry announced on Tuesday.
The aircraft carrier carried out landing and take-off exercises involving fighter planes and helicopters in waters north of the Okinotori Pacific Atoll, the ministry said.
Tokyo’s announcement one day after Japanese officials said Liaoning, the former aircraft carrier in China, had entered the island from Minamithirishima.
The chief secretary of the Japanese cabinet, Yoshimasa Hayashi, said that Tokyo would intensify surveillance and had transmitted “an appropriate message” to China, without developing.
Tokyo’s best spokesperson Hayashi, Hayashi, said on Monday, said China’s growing maritime activity seemed to aim to strengthen its ability to carry out missions further from its coast.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman, Lin Jian, defended the movements of aircraft carriers on Monday, describing them as “fully in line with international law and international practices”.
“Our national defense policy is defensive in nature. We hope Japan will see these activities objectively and rationally,” said Lin at a regular press conference.
