Google is preparing to bring YouTube Create to iOS devices almost two years after the exclusively launch of the video editing application on Android. The job lists examined by Techcrunch reveal that the company actively hires engineers in India for the iOS development project.
THE job stations Show Google recruits engineers in Bengaluru specifically to create the iOS version. The original Android application Make his debut In the United States and seven other markets in September 2023, then extended to 13 additional markets in February 2024.
YouTube Create provides free mobile video mounting tools designed for content creators, offering features such as stickers, GIFs and effects for YouTube shorts and longer videos. Google developed the application after consulting 3,000 creators to ensure that it met their needs.
The application is Google’s attempt to compete with the popular Capcut editor in Bytedance. But the exclusive data of the tower of sensors shared with Techcrunch show that YouTube Create is far behind Capcut and another established competitor, Inshot.
The competition is not even close. In the second quarter of this year, Capcut and Inshot were downloaded 66 million and 21 million times, respectively, to Android devices. On the other hand, YouTube Create has seen less than 500,000 downloads this quarter and only 4 million downloads since its launch.
The user engagement gap is even more pronounced. CAPCUT has more than 442 million monthly active users on the Android application in the second quarter, while ARSHOT claims 92 million. YouTube creates delays far behind with less than a million monthly active users.
On iOS – The YouTube Create platform now targets – competition is just as fierce. CAPCUT leads with 194 million monthly active users in the second quarter, followed by Inshot with 25 million. Meanwhile, Capcut and Edit d’Instagram dominated iOS downloads this quarter, with 28 million and 7 million downloads, respectively.
Despite the delay in the figures, YouTube Create shows a certain momentum, with a 28% increase in the other of the monthly active users in the second quarter, exceeding a 9% increase for Capcut and a drop of 7% for Inshot, according to data from the sensor tower.
“While offering solid user growth over one year on the other, YouTube Create has struggled to follow some of his larger and more established peers such as Capcut, the latter having more than 10 times the number of monthly active users,” said Abe Yousef, a senior information analyst at Sensor Tower.
YouTube Create can build a more faithful user base, suggested Yousef. The increase in active user numbers alongside declining downloads could indicate that people who have already tried the application return to use it regularly.
“Capcut outgoing many years ago, coupled with the fact that it is perfectly integrated into its sister application, Tiktok, probably plays in this difference in material size with YouTube Create,” said Yousef.
However, YouTube Create faces certain retention problems. Its 90 -day retention rate – the percentage of users who downloaded the application and still use it 90 days later – was around 1% in the first quarter, well below 7% CAPCUT and 4% inshot.
Commitment measures also highlight the gap. Users spend an average of 38 minutes a month on YouTube Create, compared to 62 minutes for CAPCUT users. Capcut users also open the application more often, with an average of 23 sessions monthly against 11 for YouTube Create.
Geographically, the user base of YouTube Create is diversifying. India represented 67% of the total active monthly users on YouTube Create in the second quarter of last year, but this share fell to 51% this quarter while the application gained ground elsewhere. However, YouTube Create seems to gain membership in India, with daily user ratios to months going from 9% last year to, so far, 12% this year.
In addition to India, Indonesia has become the second market of Youtube Create, representing 21% of its world -class active users. Germany (5%), Brazil (4%) and the United Kingdom (3%) complete the main markets.
The application also shows a particularly strong growth on several other markets, with a monthly monthly increase from one year over the other of 119% in Spain, 91% in South Korea, 89% in France and 71% in Singapore.
“An iOS version of YouTube Create could absolutely help the platform to develop its market share, although fierce competition in space both from other video editing platforms supported by social media and native video editors will persist,” said Yousef.
