Syndicated quality insurance workers on Zenimax media Announced today that they had reached a provisional contract agreement with Microsoft, the parent company of Zenimax. The workers, who are represented by the communication workers in America, spent two years negotiating this contract, which, according to them, “establishes new standards for industry”, including new agreements and wage policies on AI tools.
According to the union, the new agreement includes a new minimum wage, salary increases at all levels, protection of arbitrary dismissal, grievance procedures and a new credit policy which guarantees that AQ workers are included in the credits of a game. The agreement also incorporates rules previously agreed on the use of AI in the workplace.
The CWA previously reported that the long negotiations had not proceeded due to disagreements on work practices. The members of the union even voted to authorize a strike in April, noting that they had not been able to conclude an agreement with Microsoft concerning a lack of remote work options and the replacement of internal workers with an outsourced contractual workforce.
The president of the CWA, Claude Cummings, said in a statement: “Workers in the video game industry show again that the collective power works. This agreement shows what is possible when workers stand together and refuse to accept the status quo. Whether it is to have a say in the use of AI at the workplace, the fight for significant salary increases and fair credit policies, or the protection of restoration work, our members have raised the bar.
