Mali will face Senegal in the round of 16.
Mali dizzy Tunisia in the African Cup of Nationswinning their round of 16 tie on penalties despite spending much of the match with 10 men.
Tunisia were favorites to reach the round of 16 and set up a meeting with Senegal, who beat Sudan 3-1 earlier on Saturday.
They went into the match winless in four AFCON encounters against Mali, but their hopes were boosted considerably when Woyo Coulibaly was sent off for a rash challenge on Hannibal Mejbri in the 26th minute.
Tunisia struggled to make their extra player count, and neither team had a shot on target in a match that lacked quality until the 78th minute.
But it looked like Tunisia had secured a place in the last 16 when Firas Chaouat gave them the lead with a header in the 88th minute.
Yet there was a dramatic twist in added time as Yassine Meriah was adjudged to have handled in the box, giving Malian talisman Lassine Sinayoko the opportunity to bring them level from the penalty spot.
He did so quickly with his third goal of the tournament, and Tunisia failed to force its way through the Malian defense a second time in the next 30 minutes of overtime.
Tunisia gave up the lead twice on penalties, and Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane’s miss on his fifth shot on goal allowed Bilal Touré to seal a famous triumph for the Eagles in Casablanca.
