Tory Bruno, President and CEO of Boeing Co. and Lockheed-Martin United Launch Alliance, Corp.’s rocket joint venture, resigned after serving in the role for nearly 12 years.
Chief Operating Officer John Elbon will serve as interim CEO, the ULA Board of Directors announced Monday.
One of SpaceX’s biggest competitors, ULA is part of a group of elite companies authorized to launch the most sensitive satellites for the U.S. military. During his tenure as head of ULA, Bruno oversaw the retirement and phase-out of the company’s legacy Delta and Atlas rockets, while leading the development of a new rocket called the Vulcan.
“We are grateful for Tory’s service to ULA and the country, and we thank him for his leadership,” the ULA board of directors said in a statement.statement. Bruno is leaving to pursue another opportunity, the release said.
