In a stunning turn of events that has the world talking, President Donald Trump and Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro are now at the center of one of the most daring international operations in decades. What happened early Saturday morning in Caracas sounds like a military thriller, but it’s real and it’s unfolding quickly.
Sources say Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Flores Eyelasheswere kidnapped from their home in Ft. Tiuna military base in the Venezuelan capital. American forces would have followed the couple for weeks, monitoring their routines, meals and movements before diving under the cover of darkness. Within hours, they were aboard a U.S. warship, blindfolded and in custody, flown to New York to face criminal charges in a Justice Department indictment accusing them of participation in a narcoterrorism plot.
The capture has arrived amid explosions and airstrikes through Caracas early Saturday. Eyewitnesses reported at least seven explosions, with smoke rising from military bases and hangars, as low-flying planes swept across the city. Maduro’s government immediately condemned the action like a “imperialist attack“, claiming that civilian and military sites had been hit and calling on Venezuelans to take to the streets. Delcy Rodríguez confirmed some There were losses among military and civilian personnel, although exact figures were not disclosed.
Meanwhile, Trump took Truth Social to be announced the operation. Furthermore, he posted the capture, posting a photo of Maduro aboard the ship, blindfolded in a tracksuit. The former president made it clear that the United States would rule Venezuela, at least temporarily. “We will lead the country until we can make a safe, appropriate and wise transition,“Asset said at a press conference.
THE unprecedented operation mark the culmination of a weeks-long Trump administration pressure campaign that targeted Venezuela. Furthermore, Trump claimed Venezuela’s oil wealth were “a total fiasco” under Maduro’s decades-long rule. Experts say the operation echoes the 1989, American invasion of Panamawhich led to capture of Manuel Noriega. While Maduro had last appeared publicly a few hours earlier, meeting with Chinese officialsthe overnight operation now leaves his regime effectively dismantled. Furthermore, countless politicians and journalists have raised questions about legality and the world consequences of the actions of the Trump administration.
Nicolás Maduro, his wife Cilia Flores and senior Venezuelan officials are now faces US charges over alleged decades”drug trafficking and narcoterrorism plots”, according to an indictment unveiled Saturday. Prosecutors say that since at least 1999the couple and their allies worked with international drug networks to move thousands of tons of cocaine to the United States. Bondi warned on social networks than Maduro and Flores »will soon face the full wrath of American justice on American soil in American courts.”
The new indictment draws on a 2020 federal case accusing Maduro of leading the infamous Cartel de los Soles. They reportedly collaborated with the Colombian FARC guerrillas and used the Venezuelan government to flood the United States with cocaine. Prosecutors say he even helped negotiate multi-ton shipments and provided the FARC with military-grade weapons, while coordinating with foreign governments like Honduras to continue the operation. And just last year, the Trump administration designated the Cartel of the Suns as a foreign terrorist organization, thereby increasing pressure on the Venezuelan regime.
