Amanda Serrano knocks back Reina Tellez for national defense title

Even though the scoreboards were clear, the combat itself required work. Serrano controlled the pace for most of the night, but Tellez made him win. Coming in on short notice, Tellez showed composure from the start and was ready to trade when openings presented themselves. She landed a clean right hand in the first half of the fight, enough to cause visible swelling around Serrano’s right eye and disrupt the rhythm of the champion’s forward pressure.

Serrano responded as she usually does. She stayed busy, crowding behind the jab and constantly going to the body. The early rounds featured exchanges in which Tellez had moments, but Serrano’s higher output and ability to reset the fight allowed him to maintain control. Tellez was up for it, but she rarely dictated the location of the exchanges.

The fight began to turn more clearly in Serrano’s favor in the middle rounds. She increased her work rate, backed Tellez to the ropes and focused on sustained body attacks. A strong fifth round saw Serrano hurt Tellez with repeated shots to the midsection, forcing clinches and slowing the challenger’s counters. From that point on, Serrano finished exchanges more consistently and limited the chances to reset Tellez.

Tellez remained durable and had brief flashes in the middle rounds, but the pace slowed her down. Serrano controlled the distance, initiating exchanges and closing rounds with combinations as the fight headed into the championship rounds. There was never a stop, but the momentum was no longer in doubt.

Serrano finished with a very swollen right eye, proof that the fight was competitive and physical. Afterward, she thanked Tellez for intervening on short notice and praised his tenacity. The fighters embraced before the final round and again after the decision.

The victory improved Serrano’s record to 48-4-1 and marked a successful comeback defense in Puerto Rico. Tellez, now 13-1-1, suffered his first loss but showed durability and composure in his first world-level fight.

The event was promoted by MVP and broadcast on DAZN.
