Americans Set Financial Goals for 2026 Amid Lingering Inflation Concerns


Nearly half of Americans report feeling like they are behind financially. inflation continues to weigh on household budgetsaccording to a new Fox News poll.

The survey reveals that 44% of respondents believe their personal finances are in decline, a sentiment echoed by shoppers on Chicago’s Magnificent Milewho told FOX Business he plans to curb his spending and save more in 2026.

FOX Business Correspondent Kelly Saberi spoke with Windy City passersby who discussed saving more, spending less and investing more money in 2026.

One said they wanted to determine a set amount to save each week. Another said he wanted concentrate your spending on the essentials.

“Don’t spend money on frivolous things, like don’t buy coffee every day,” he said. “I feel like I bought a lot of coffee in 2025.” He pointed to simple changes, like brewing coffee at home and bringing lunch to work, as ways to save money.

Although inflation has eased in recent months, prices remain high for many basic goods. The consumer price index shows that the overall index increased by 2.7% in November, compared to 3% in September. December data is not yet finalized.

Dairy prices fell 1.6% in November, but the cost of proteins like meat, poultry, fish and eggs rose 4.7%.

“The main thing I took away from talking to these people on a very cold day is that this is something they’ve been talking about and thinking about all year,” Saberi said Wednesday on “Morning with Maria.”
