Report, result and goals as Wirtz scores but Reds hold on after late drama

Fulham And Liverpool played out a remarkable 2-2 draw at Craven Cottage, with stoppage-time drama at both ends ending a breathless match Premier League contest which continued until the final minutes.

Fulham executed their plan effectively for the first half, sitting deep in the back five and waiting for openings on the counter.

Their patience was rewarded in the 17th minute when Raul Jimenez’s smart shot released Harry Wilson, who raced and finished calmly past Alisson.

Although initially flagged for offside, VAR overturned the decision, with Virgil van Dijk adjudged to have played Wilson.

Despite Liverpool’s dominant possession, the visitors struggled to create clear chances before the break and trailed 1-0.

Chaos in the second half

Liverpool came out sharper after half-time and were level through Florian Wirtz, despite another VAR check to confirm the goal after a narrow offside.

This strike changed the momentum, with the champions pushing for a winner as Fulham were forced deeper. Chances followed from both sides, including unexpected efforts for Alexis Mac Allister and Wilson, as the game opened up.

Deep into stoppage time, Cody Gakpo looked to have settled the match when he arrived at the back post to make it 2-1, sparking chaotic celebration scenes outside.

Yet Fulham refused to fold. In the seventh minute of added time, Harrison Reed collected a pass from Kevin and fired a superb strike from over 20 yards into the top corner, sending Craven Cottage into raptures and salvaging a dramatic point for the hosts.
