Sony’s CES 2026 press conference will take place in a few days, and this year comes with a twist: rather than an overview of Sony’s plans for electronics, video games and Hollywood studios for the new year, the presser will focus on a more specific topic: electric vehicles. Does this seem strange? Indeed, the traditional end-of-press-day slot is not just Sony, but rather Sony Honda Mobility – the joint venture responsible for the Afeela 1 electric car that has been showcased at CES for nearly a decade. But this year we will get to see a completely new concept model at the event.
The event will be broadcast live from Las Vegas on Monday, January 5 at 8 p.m. ET via the Afeela Official YouTube Channelwhich we have embedded below.
The Afeela 1 has been featured in various incarnations from CES 2020where it was initially announced as Vision-S. But many other important details have been confirmed over the past couple of years, including the price, which starts at $89,900. However, first impressions were far from impressive, and as of CES 2025, that idea remains the same. Engadget automotive expert Tim Stevens said a year ago that the electric vehicle “it feels like a PlayStation 4 in the PS5 era“, and that “the car has lost what little interesting style it had while remaining true to some specs that sounded good five years ago.” Ouch.
But the Afeela 1 will not be the only vehicle on display. Its CES booth will feature “multiple Afeela 1 pre-production vehicles in multiple color variations, alongside a new Afeela concept model,” Sony Honda Mobility said in a press release.
The company recently announced that the Afeela would be the first vehicle to PlayStation Remote Play offerwhich allows gamers to remotely stream their PS4 or PS5 games from their consoles inside the car. It’s undoubtedly built on the same thing streaming improvements which were incorporated into the PlayStation Portal.
We hope to see what else is new and improved at CES 2026, and we’re also excited to see its new concept model. And between the booth presentations and press releases, we hope to see at least a few new Sony Electronics products on the schedule for 2026 as well.
