Gilbert Arenas looks back on Jaylen Brown’s voice acting as ‘Robin’ and crowns him as ‘Option No. 1’ after 50-point masterclass for Celtics

The Boston Celtics, with Jaylen Brown at the helm, did not have the chance to compete in the East at the start of the season. But after Brown’s 50-point performance Saturday against the LA Clippers, former NBA player Gilbert Arenas walked back his previous comments about the Celtics star.

Speaking on a recent episode of “The Gilbert Arenas Show,” Arenas bluntly admitted he was wrong about Brown. He called the former NBA Finals MVP a true No. 1 option and even went so far as to say Brown might be the best shooter in the NBA.

Arenas added that even when Jayson Tatum returns from his Achilles tendon injury, they will no longer be “Batman” and “Robin”.

“We have the right to call him Robin,” Arenas said. “Right now, he’s holding Batman’s sign. Batman is gone right now; he’s taken over, and he’s Batman right now. When they come back and they’re both together, we’ll know who they are now.”

The three-time All-Star also said:

“We know they’re both the number one options. They’re going to play their part to win rings, period. The discussion is over. I don’t care who’s better, who’s not. We know now they can both steer the ship.”

Without Jayson Tatum this season, the Boston Celtics have accumulated a 22-12 record heading into Monday’s game against the Chicago Bulls. The Celtics occupy third place in the East standings, just behind the Detroit Pistons and the New York Knicks. They are on a three-game winning streak and have won seven of their last 10 games.

Jaylen Brown is having the best season of his career, averaging 30.1 points, 6.3 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 1.1 steals per game. His shooting distribution is 51/37/78.

Aside from his on-court “hair issues,” Brown should be considered for MVP, especially with Nikola Jokic and Giannis Antetokounmpo potentially ineligible due to missing time due to injuries.

In addition to scoring 50 points against the LA Clippers, Jaylen Brown also limited Kawhi Leonard to just 22 points. Leonard came into the game on an absolute tear, averaging 39.0 points per game over his last six games.

After the game, Brown made a stunning statement about himself, which he proved in their win over the red-hot Clippers.

“I believe I’m the best two-way player in the world, so I just wanted to go out and show it,” Brown said, according to the Boston Herald.

Brown also now has the fifth-best chance to win the MVP award, behind Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Luka Doncic, Cade Cunningham and Jalen Brunson.
