The first hearings of 2026 related to Indiana’s sweepstakes casino ban are scheduled for the coming weeks.
The next step in banning casino sweepstakes games will come in the form of the first-ever hearings related to the ban in Indianawith testimony to be heard on banning the Sweeps Coin game in casinos on January 6. The state House of Representatives’ Public Policy Committee will meet to hear testimony on House Bill 1052, which is expected to make a handful of changes to the state’s gambling governance and regulation.
It’s not even 2026 yet, and three states already have bills in place banning online sweepstakes casinos – Florida, Indiana and Maine – with more expected. Plus additional opinions from the Attorney General and civil enforcement actions. pic.twitter.com/fQkqgMhpJW

This includes banning dual currency sweepstakes casinos (or those involving the Sweeps Coin game), with a note on official documents that the hearing is set to “define and establish civil and criminal sanctions for the conduct of a “competition””. Additionally, the hearing will focus on changes that would add conditions for revocation or suspension of horse racing betting licenses and add sports betting certificate holders to the voluntary exclusion program.
Maine Legislative Document 2007, which would also ban the Sweeps Coin game, is also expected to have its first hearing right after HB1052, scheduled for January 14.
Banning sweepstakes is a priority in 2026 in several states, with bans already introduced or pre-filed for the year in Indiana, Maine and Florida. This continues its momentum from 2025, with Tennessee has issued as many as 40 cease and desist letters at the end of last year, and New York officially bans gaming in early December.
A ban like Indiana’s may not mean the end of sweepstakes entirely, focusing only on games involving two currencies. This leaves some room for operators to innovate new forms of gaming that do not rely on Sweeps Coin gameplay to still offer services in the state that are within the bounds of the law.
