Palestinian health officials and witnesses say that at least five people were killed and that others were injured on Sunday by Israeli fire while they were heading to two aid distribution in the Gaza Strip led by an Israeli group supported by the United States. The Israeli army said it had shot on people who have approached its strength.
Four bodies were taken to Nasser hospital in the southern city of Khan Younis in Gaza. Palestinian witnesses there said that Israeli forces had shot them during a roundabout about one kilometer from a site led by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation in the neighboring city of Rafah.
The Israeli army said that it had shot from people who, according to them, were suspects who had progressed towards its strength and ignored the warnings to turn away. He said the shooting occurred in an area in the south of Gaza which is considered an active combat zone at night.
Meanwhile, the Al-Awda Hospital said in a statement that he had received the body of a 42-year-old man and 29 people injured near another GHF aid distribution in the center of Gaza. The soldiers said they had shot warning in the region around 6:40 a.m. but had no victims.
A GHF spokesperson said there was no violence in or around his distribution sites, the three of which had helped on Sunday. The group had temporarily ended them last week to discuss security measures with the Israeli army and warned people to stay on designated access routes. The spokesperson spoke under the cover of anonymity in accordance with regulations.
Mortal shootings near New Aid Hubs
The last two weeks have seen frequent shootings near new hubs where thousands of desperate Palestinians aim to collect food. Witnesses say that the nearby Israeli troops opened fire and more than 80 people were killed, according to officials at Gaza Hospital. The Israeli army said it had shot warning or, in some cases, near individuals approaching its forces.
Witnesses said that the Sunday shooting in the south of Gaza had taken place around 6 am, when they were told that the site would open. Many had moved to him early to try to desperately need food before the crowd.
Adham Dahman, 30, who was at Nasser Hospital with a bandage on the chin, said that a tank had taken to them.
“We didn’t know how to escape,” he said. “It’s a trap for us, not an aid.”
Zahed Ben Hassan, another witness, said that someone next to him had been shot in the head. He said that he and others had pulled the body of the scene and had managed to flee to the hospital.
“They said it was a safe area from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. … So why did they start shooting us?” He said. “There was light, and they have their cameras and can clearly see us.”
The soldiers announced on Friday that the sites would be open during these hours and that the area would be a military zone closed from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Risk of famine
The hubs are installed in Israeli military areas – where the independent media do not have access – and are led by GHF, a new group of mainly American entrepreneurs. Israel wants him to replace a system coordinated by the United Nations and international aid groups.
Israel and the United States accuse the militant group of Hamas Help Help, while the UN denies that there is a systematic diversion. The UN says that the new system is unable to meet assembly needs and allows Israel to use aid as a weapon by determining it that can receive it and forcing people to move where help sites are positioned.
The United Nations system was struggling to provide help – even after Israel released its complete Gaza blockade last month. UN officials say that their efforts are hampered by Israeli military restrictions, the rupture of the law and the generalized order and looting.

Since October 7, access to food in Gaza – and its systematic restriction by Israel – has been the subject of an international conviction. The most recent incident is the murder of dozens of Palestinians who try to get food from a help distribution center. The Israeli settlers have blocked the roads and help delivery. Aid convoys and workers have also been targeted with violence. And in March, Israel established a large -scale blockade on the aid to the Gaza Strip. Today, a net has been allowed to enter the territory. International organizations have been warning from Famine to Gaza for over a year. Experts warned earlier this year that Gaza was at a critical risk of famine if Israel did not lift its blockade and did not stop its military campaign, which, according to Israeli officials, will continue until all the hostages have returned and that Hamas is defeated or disarmed and sent in exile.
Hamas said that it would only release the remaining hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, a lasting ceasefire and an Israeli withdrawal from Gaza. Méléplus mediated by the United States, Egypt and Qatar have been deadlocked for months.
In separate development, the Israeli army accused a spokesperson for the Civil Defense of Gaza of being an active member of Hamas, according to documents which, according to him, were recovered during operations inside Gaza.
The Associated Press was unable to check the documents independently, which claim to show that Mahmoud Bassal joined Hamas in 2005. Bassal did not immediately respond to requests for comments.
Civil defense is the first stakeholders who operate under the government managed by Hamas and are often the first to arrive at the scenes of Israeli strikes.
Hamas began war with its massive attack against southern Israel on October 7, 2023, when Palestinian activists killed some 1,200 people, mainly civilians, and took 251 other hostage, according to Israeli counts. They still hold 55 hostages, less than half of them living, after most of the others have been released in ceasefire agreements or other agreements.
Israel has recovered dozens of bodies, including three in recent days, and has saved eight living hostages during the war.
The military campaign of Israel killed more than 54,000 Palestinians, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health. He said women and children make up most of the dead, but do not say how many civilians or combatants have been killed. Israel says he killed more than 20,000 activists, without providing evidence.
The war has destroyed large areas of Gaza and moved around 90% of its population. About two million Palestinians in the territory depend almost entirely on international aid because almost all of Gaza’s food production capacities have been destroyed.
