An extraordinary piece of fielding Matthew Breetzke provided the defining moment in an otherwise one-sided context SA20 2026 competition, like Sunrisers Eastern Cape scored a dominant 10-wicket victory Pretoria Capitals at SuperSport Park, Centurion. Sensational Breetzke slide ruled out Dewald Brévis briefly fired up the crowd, but it proved to be a rare highlight for the home side on a night almost entirely controlled by the Sunrisers.
After winning the toss, Pretoria Capitals opted to bat first and posted a respectable 176/7 in their 20 overs. The sleeves were anchored by Connor Esterhuizenwho bowled with composure and intention to score 52 off 33 deliveries. His knock provided stability until the middle overs, especially after the Capitals lost their initial momentum.
Power hitter Sherfane Rutherford provided the late flourish, remaining unbeaten on 47 and lifting the innings with crisp hitting in the death overs. Despite these efforts, the Capitals were overpowered by a disciplined bowling display from the pace spearhead Sunrisers Eastern Cape. Anrich Nortjewhich returned impressive figures of 3/32.
The climax of the first innings came on the third ball of the 16th over. Nortje hit the ball briefly, forcing Brevis to shoot awkwardly. The ball soared high towards the deep mid-wicket region, where Breetzke charged from the boundary, judged the ball perfectly and took a superb low sliding catch.
It was a moment that showcased athleticism, awareness and sure hands under pressure – a “blinder” that instantly went viral and drew applause from both dugouts. Although it did not change the course of the match, it underlined Breetzke’s growing reputation as an elite outfield player on the South African circuit.

Any hopes Pretoria had of defending 176 were quickly dashed by a ruthless opening partnership. Quinton de Kock And Johnny Bairstow gave a masterclass in batting, chasing down the target without losing a wicket in just 14.2 overs.
De Kock was elegance personified, finishing unbeaten with 79, hitting five fours and six sixes, while Bairstow matched him stroke for stroke with an explosive 85 not out, decorated with eight boundaries and six maximums. The duo dismantled the Capitals bowling attack with authority, combining power and placement to perfection.
