The chances of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer making a return to Manchester United were slashed overnight.
Solskjaer reportedly interested in second term as United boss after the dismissal of Ruben Amorim yesterday.
The 52-year-old, who also made over 200 appearances for the club as a player, was appointed caretaker manager in December 2018 following the dismissal of José Mourinho. After a successful start, he was given the role full-time, managing the club for almost three years before being made redundant in November 2021.
After a long absence, he returned to Besiktas in January 2025 but only stayed eight months before being sacked.
Fletcher to take charge of United’s trip to Burnley
Solskjaer’s former United teammate Darren Fletcher, Under-18s coach at Old Trafford, will be in charge of tomorrow night’s match at Burnley. with the club apparently looking for an interim boss who will then take over until the summer, when United will have a much wider pool from which to choose a permanent successor to Amorim.
Reports late last night suggested that former Norway international Solskjaer would be interested in the interim role and the bookmakers are making him a decent candidate, with his odds rising from 20/1 to 6/1 this morning.
Fletcher is favorite to stay until the summer with Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner, whose contract expires at the end of the season, also well-backed.
‘Maybe he’s going back to Old Trafford’
