Arsenal working on deal for Blackburn striker Igor Tyjon in January

Arsenal have reportedly stepped up their efforts to sign Blackburn Rovers teenage sensation Igor Tyjon, with the 17-year-old striker emerging as a key target for the Gunners this month.

After a summer window in which the north London club saw their approaches rebuffed, new reports indicate that Arsenal are back at the table.

With the youngster signaling his intention to leave Ewood Park, a move to the Emirates could be on the horizon before the January window closes.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Arsenal “actively working on a deal” to bring Blackburn Rovers to London.

Jacobs revealed the development on X, noting that Tyjon had been on the club’s radar for some time, with interest dating back to the summer transfer window.

Jacobs reports that the 17-year-old has formally rejected a professional contract with Blackburn Rovers.

The decision put the Championship team in a precarious position; although no amount has yet been agreed, the club may be forced to cash out now rather than losing it later due to court-appointed compensation.

Jacobs described the situation as “one to watch this month”, suggesting that even if no deal is agreed, conditions are right for Arsenal to secure one of England’s brightest academy prospects.

Player Profile: Who is Igor Tyjon?

Igor Tyjon is a versatile striker capable of playing across the front line, although he primarily operates as a central striker.

Born in 2008, he joined Blackburn from Rochdale in 2023 and quickly established himself as a prolific goalscorer in youth football, attracting attention for his agility, technical ability and finishing.

With an impressive strike rate in Premier League 2 this season, averaging a goal in each game, Tyjon is in fine form and has proven he is ready for the next stage of his development, a trajectory that Arsenal appear keen to oversee.
