Eleven’s fate is biggest topic of discussion leaving the finale of the series Stranger Things. At first we think she sacrificed herself to stop the cycle of evil made possible by her powers. But, in the episode’s final moments, his best friend Mike weaves an alternate history that maybe, just maybe, leaves the door open for something else.
One of the people who participated in this memorable scene is Sadie Sinkwho played the character of Max. She was recently on TThe Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and she was asked the question whether or not she thought Eleven was dead or alive. And while other actors have avoided the question so far (more on that in a second), Sink has not.
“I think she’s dead,” Sink said. “Is this a hot take or something?” Fallon agreed, and then Sink explained a little. “I think Mike’s story is just one last story. Then they say goodbye to childhood, and it’s just one last story. And that’s it. I think it’s just like a matter of adaptation.”
“I think it’s stronger [for her to be dead]”, she concluded. “That’s my interpretation. I’m sorry.”
Of course, that last part is true. Eleven In fact to be dead would be In fact ending any chance the government or villains in general might have of using her blood to create other powerful beings like her. If she’s still alive, even if she’s somewhere far, far away, there’s always a chance she’ll be discovered and captured, and the whole cycle starts again. It would be quite a risky decision, especially if you went somewhere where someone might find you. So yes, it’s stronger for her to be dead. But no one knows for sure.
However, Sink is just one person in this crucial scene. Another is Gaten Matarazzo, who played Dustin. When asked the same question about Eleven’s fate, he chose the more diplomatic route. “I do [have an opinion]but I want to keep this private,” he said Variety. “I don’t know if others will, but I think whatever works for you and makes the show end better for you is fine. You’re allowed to debate it, but whatever you want it to be for you is great. I think they teeter on that line really well, because I’ve already noticed a sort of 50/50 split among the fans as to whether they believe it.”
Maybe Sink is so tired of not being able to say anything about Spiderman that she decided to go the other way. And either way, we love what she did.
