There’s still a long way to go, but this season really is shaping up to be something pretty special for Arsenal.
Thanks to their victories over Aston Villa and Bournemouth and Manchester City’s draws against Sunderland and Chelsea, Mikel Arteta the team is now six points clear at the top of the standings. Premier League painting.
However, there is always room for improvement, and one area where the north Londoners are still lacking compared to Pep Guardiola’s heavyweight is in attack.
Luckily, if reports are to be believed, Arsenal are keen to strengthen their attacking options and have been linked with someone who could be their new player. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Arsenal target new Aubameyang
Now, it must be said that Arsenal have one of the best attacks in the Premier League; they wouldn’t be sitting on it if they didn’t.
However, even after scoring seven goals in their last two games, the Gunners have scored four fewer than City in total.
While this isn’t proving too problematic at the moment, it’s easy to see why the club might want to add more firepower to Arteta’s squad in 2026, something they appear to intend to do in the guise of someone who could be seen as another Auba.
At least that’s what one says recent report from Caught Offsidewho claims Arsenal are very interested in Karim Adeyemi.
In fact, the report claims that the Gunners have already investigated the player and spoken to the Germany international’s camp to define a clear role for him in the team and that, as things stand, they are ahead of Manchester United in the race for his signature.
However, the potentially significant hurdle the north Londoners will face in getting this deal done is that Borussia Dortmund want up to €70m for the striker, or around £61m.
So this could be a costly and complicated move to get through, but given Adeyemi’s abilities and potential, it’s a move Arsenal should pursue, especially as he could be another Aubameyang.
Why Adeyemi would be another Aubameyang
The first and most obvious comparison between Adeyemi and Aubameyang is that, if this deal goes through, it would be another example of Arsenal signing someone from Dortmund.
More than that, though, it would be an example of the Gunners signing a dynamic, highly rated striker who knows where the goal is.
Sure, the German may not be as prolific as the Gabon international was, or is, but he remains a serious attacking threat.
For example, in just 41 appearances last season, totaling 2,434 minutes, the 23-year-old scored 12 goals and provided 11 assists.
This equates to a sensational average of goal involvement every 1.78 matches, or every 105.82 minutes.

As well as being a serious source of goal involvements, the former RB Salzburg gem would also be a solution to Arteta’s problems, thanks to his positional versatility.
Like the former Gunners captain, the Munich star can play up front or out wide, but unlike Auba, he can play on the left or right.
Finally, another trait that the 11-cap international shares with the FA Cup winner is his rapid pace.
In the words of Jacek Kulig, football talent scoutthe goal dynamo has an “electric rhythm”, which he often uses to devastating effect on counter-attacks.
Ultimately, while it won’t be a cheap transfer to get over the finishing line, Arsenal should do what they can to sign Adeyemi, as he could be the missing piece to their attack and their new Aubameyang.
