Jonathan Kuminga camp sends clear message amid Steve Kerr minutes drama

The Golden State Warriors and Jonathan Kuminga are expected to part ways before the February 5 trade deadline. Kuminga is expected to become trade eligible on Jan. 15, although his value is unclear as he hasn’t gotten minutes recently. The latest trade rumors suggest that Kuminga’s camp is sending a clear message to the franchise.

According to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints, Kuminga and his representatives are looking out for his best interest by remaining prepared. He is no longer part of the Warriors’ 11-man rotation and has not played since Dec. 19 against the Phoenix Suns. It also helps that not playing will keep him healthy and ready to play once he is traded.

“Kuminga and his camp believe it is in his best interest to stay ready behind the scenes and no longer let Kerr’s decisions regarding the young forward’s minutes affect his value in the eyes of other teams interested in him around the league,” Siegel wrote. “Not to mention, Kuminga’s team doesn’t want to risk him getting hurt.”

Steve Kerr’s recent comments could be a sign of Jonathan Kuminga’s future

Jonathan Kuminga had the chance to dress and play on January 2 against the OKC Thunder. Steve Kerr rested his starters, giving minutes to his players.

However, Kuminga was added to the injury report at the last minute due to a back injury.

When reporters asked Kerr about Kuminga’s injury after the game, it seemed like the coach had no idea how it happened or if it would persist.

“Right before the game,” Kerr said via 95.7 The Game. “I don’t know. I have no idea.”

Kuminga began the season as a member of the starting lineup and was showing signs that he was willing to do anything to stay there. But less than a month later, he was back to his old habits, so Kerr had no choice but to bring him off the bench before eventually removing him from his rotation.
