Husband Convicted of Progressive ‘Squad’ Lawmaker’s Crime Rep. Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass., slapped a phone from a reporter’s hands Monday inside a City Hall building after she tried to approach the congresswoman to ask her a question about alleged child care fraud in Minnesota.
“Congressman Pressley, do you support -” the interviewer could be heard asking as he approached Pressley with his phone camera recorded in front of Conan Harris, Pressley’s husband who passed 10 years in prison accused of drug trafficking, snatched the phone from the interrogator’s hands.
“Sir, you can’t take my phone out of my hand,” the caller could be heard saying, before the phone was taken back and put back into focus. Harris spent 10 years in prison on drug charges before marrying Pressley, who said she drew on her experience reentering mainstream society after her release from prison to help inform how she advocated for incarcerated or previously incarcerated people.

The incident took place Monday at Chelsea City Hall, located in Chelsea, Massachusetts.

Meanwhile, the cameraman tried to focus the image on Harris after his phone was knocked out of his hand, but Harris was seen entering what appeared to be a bathroom, or some sort of room off the hallway they were in, once he was able to refocus the camera.
Instead, the interviewer returned to Pressley and attempted a second time to ask his question.
“Congressman Pressley, do you support that President Trump is investigating Child custody fraud in Somalia in Minnesota?” he asked as the Massachusetts Democrat walked away, guarded by her entourage of staffers. “Congresswoman Pressley?”

The lawmaker was pressed on the issue the same day the Trump administration announced it would freeze $10 billion in federal child care funds in five blue states, following reports of social services fraud involving Minnesota’s Somali community.
The states affected will be California, Colorado, Illinois, Minnesota and New York.
An Office of Management and Budget official reportedly told Axios that the withholding was due to both fraud and the provision of funds to undocumented immigrants.

“Fraud in California, New York and Illinois is much higher than in Minnesota,” Elon Musk, former head of Donald Trump’s Department of Government Effectiveness (DOGE), said this week. “I think the scale of fraud nationally is about 10 percent of the federal budget, or about $700 billion a year.”
