Lennox Lewis Says No One Will Beat ‘Boogeyman’ With 80% KO Ratio: ‘He’s My Guy’

David Benavidez is still waiting for the career-defining fight he dreams of, but according to Lennox Lewisthe result will be the same no matter who is standing in front of him.

Benavidez, who has 25 knockouts in his 31 wins, is currently enjoying a second reign as world champion, this time at light heavyweight, after first winning the WBC super middleweight title in 2017. The 29-year-old is almost two months removed from a one-sided defense against Anthony Yardea performance that only cemented his reputation as one of boxing’s most feared operators.

Next comes a calculated detour. In May, Benavidez will move up to cruiserweight to challenge unified champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramireza fight that could go a long way toward defining where his future ultimately lies.

Few fighters understand legacy better than Lennox Lewis. The former undisputed heavyweight champion cemented his place in history with defining clashes with Evander Holyfield And Mike Tysonand Lewis made his feelings on Benavidez clear talking to Carl Froch.

“Benavidez, that’s my guy right there. He’s a serious contender. This man is a bogeyman in a sense. Who’s there to give him a good fight? I don’t see anyone there to give him a good fight. He’s that good.”

Froch, himself a former three-time super middleweight world champion, suggested to Lewis that the reigning unified light heavyweight champion and world number one Dmitri Bivol could present Benavidez with his toughest test. Louishowever, remained unmoved – even though Bivol sent the destructive message Artur Beterbiev last year.

“I always choose Benavidez for this one.”

Benavidez’s next moves carry both risks and rewards, but 2026 is shaping up to be a pivotal year. Either he will deliver the defining evenings his talent demands, or he will finally expose the dangers of striving for greatness across multiple divisions.
