Lionel Messi says he’s “weirder than shit” and enjoys his own space, away from the limelight.
The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner is currently in the off-season with InterMiami after another prolific Major League Soccer campaign that saw him plunder 29 goals and add 19 assists in just 28 regular season matches. He then added 15 more goals to lead Miami to its first MLS Cup title.
In doing so, he became the first man in history to win the MLS MVP award in consecutive seasons.
Messi has not yet committed to playing at this summer’s World Cup, but it would be a major surprise if the Argentina captain was not a key figure in their bid to defend the 2022 crown won in Qatar.
The 38-year-old was already in the public eye even before making his Barcelona debut in 2004 and he admits he craves peace and quiet, even if it means spending time away from his three children.
He told Argentinian streaming channel Luzu TV: “I’m weirder than sh*t. I really like being alone, I like being alone.
“The chaos at home with the three children running around ends up saturating me and I love the moments of solitude.”

If the chaos prompts him to reach for a drink, Messi has revealed an unusual choice for his favorite tipple.
He explains: “I like wine, but otherwise I have my usual: wine with Sprite. So it hits you quickly!”
