Illegal Gambling in Alabama

This is not the first similar investigation to take place in Alabama, with search warrants also executed in recent months in Pike County And Fort Paynewith illegal slot machines and records seized in both operations.

There is also growing pressure to tackle illegal online gambling, with concern grows about how these operators could affect Alabama’s youth.

An official Senate letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi highlighted how illicit offshore gambling operations “allow minors to engage in unregulated sports betting and gaming without oversight, unlike legal domestic gambling operations.” Additionally, the bipartisan letter explains how “these illegal overseas gambling operations expose young people to numerous harms, including allowing them to gamble without age verification, on credit, and providing no resources for gambling addictions.”

With Alabama being one of the few states with an almost complete ban on gambling, with some limited exceptions to betting on horse and dog races and electronic bingo machines, this push to crack down on illegal gambling is spread across both physical and online spaces.
